Ahmedabad Viral Video: Woman’s Chilli Powder Robbery Attempt Ends With 20 Slaps From Shopkeeper

A seemingly ordinary day at a jewelery shop in Ahmedabad turned into a viral sensation when a woman’s robbery attempt was met with instant and fierce resistance. What was supposed to be a quick theft ended with the would-be robber receiving 20 slaps from an alert shopkeeper, refusing to become a victim.

The Viral Incident That Shocked Social Media

On November 3, 2025, around 12:30 in the afternoon, a woman walked into a gold and silver jewelery shop located near the Ranip vegetable market in Ahmedabad. Her face was covered with a dupatta, and she pretended to be just another customer looking at the usual pieces. Nothing seemed unusual at first.

But what happened next was captured on a CCTV camera and has spread across social media platforms like wildfire. The footage shows the dramatic moment when the woman’s true intentions were revealed.

The Failed Robbery Attempt

The woman had come prepared with a plan. She had brought chilli powder with her, a common ingredient used by criminals in India to temporarily blind their victims. Her strategy was simple: throw the powder into the shopkeeper’s face, grab whatever valuables she could, and escape before he could react or call for help.

However, things did not go according to plan. When she threw the chilli powder at the shopkeeper, it failed to reach his eyes. This critical mistake cost her dearly and changed everything in an instant.

Shopkeeper’s Fast Response

Realising immediately what the woman was trying to do, the shopkeeper did not hesitate for a single second. He jumped up from his seat and began slapping the woman repeatedly. The CCTV footage, which has been viewed millions of times online, shows him delivering around 20 slaps in 25 seconds.

But he did not stop there. After the rapid slapping, the shopkeeper jumped onto the counter and physically dragged the woman out of the shop, continuing to slap her throughout the entire process. His quick thinking and decisive action prevented what could have been a successful robbery.

What The Police Are Saying

The case has taken an interesting turn from a legal perspective. Ranip Police Station PI Ketan Vyas spoke about the incident and revealed something surprising — the shopkeeper himself is refusing to file any complaint against the woman.

Despite this unusual situation, the Ahmedabad police have not closed the case. They have launched their own investigation to trace and identify the woman based on CCTV footage available from the shop.

The Ahmedabad police released an official statement on Twitter explaining their position. According to their statement, “In this case, the complainant was personally met twice to obtain a statement in this regard and was asked to file the complaint, but the complainant businessman is not inclined to lodge any complaint in this matter. Nevertheless, an investigation has been initiated to search for the accused based on the CCTV footage.”

This shows that a police officer visited the shop twice, encouraging him to file a formal complaint, but he declined both times. The exact reason for his refusal remains unknown.

Public Reaction And Social Media Response

Since the video went viral, social media has been flooded with reactions. Many users have expressed support for the shopkeeper, calling him brave and praising his quick reflexes. Comments range from admiration for his courage to debates about appropriate responses to crime.

Some users have shared similar stories from their own experiences in their local areas, suggesting that such robbery attempts are more common than many people realise. The incident has also reignited discussions about law and order in Gujarat and across India.

What Happens Next

As of now, the investigation continues, and police are using CCTV footage to identify the woman and track her down. Once identified, she could face charges of attempted robbery and assault, even without a formal complaint from the shopkeeper.

The shopkeeper has returned to his normal business operations, though he is now somewhat of a local celebrity. His shop has likely seen increased attention, both from curious customers and from media covering the story.

For the woman, if caught, the consequences could be serious. An attempt to rob is a crime that carries significant penalties under Indian law. The decision to use chilli powder as a weapon could also lead to additional charges.
