How Many Toll Plazas Are There In India? NHAI Releases State-Wise Data; Check Which State Has The Most

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is in charge of overseeing more than a thousand toll plazas on India’s major highways. These toll booths contribute to smooth transport and road upkeep across all the states. Rajasthan has the most toll plazas of any state, roughly 156, due to the extensive highways that connect Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Delhi. The following three states with the most toll points on their congested highways are Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra.

Technology And FASTag In Toll Collection

With FASTag, an electronic toll collection system that allows drivers to pay tolls without stopping, India has made the transition to digital toll payments.

  • Advantages of FASTag
  • Quicker (less than ten seconds) processing.
  • Reduced traffic at toll booths.
  • SMS notifications with every transaction.
  • Lowers the possibility of overcharging and human error.

FASTag is currently used for over 90% of toll transactions in India. However, keep in mind that even with FASTag, you are exempt from paying the toll if the line is longer than 100 meters.

What Is FASTag?

via

India’s national highways are equipped with the electronic toll collection system FASTag. It makes use of technology known as radio frequency identification or RFID. Every car has a FASTag, which is a tiny tag that is affixed to the windshield. The tag is scanned as the car enters a toll plaza, and the associated account is automatically charged the toll.

Vehicles no longer need to stop at toll plazas in order to pay the toll since the implementation of FASTag. The wait time at toll booths has been greatly decreased as a result. The line gets shorter because there is no need for cash, and the money is taken out of the account automatically. Additionally, FASTag lowers the possibility of human error in toll collection. There is no room for error in the amount collected because the toll is taken electronically.
