Back in 1983 when India lifted the world cup for the first time their jersey color was white as the only white dress was allowed in 60 overs match instead of 50.

For the first time, the color jersey was introduced on a day-night match played between WSC and West Indies. West Indies XI took on  Australia XI in the Kerry Packer’s world series in 1978. The audience enjoyed this and around 50k people came to watch this first-ever day-night match.

Westindians came in pink while Australians were in the wattle gold. 14 years after this match, in 1992 finally ICC allowed color uniforms in international one day cricket.

Every team has a different color for their jersey and it depends on the nation to nation due to various reasons.

Pakistan uses green for their jersey because their national flag is also green. In the case of Australia despite their national flag color is blue they use yellow because both green and yellow are accepted as the national colors of Australia.

India as a nation doesn’t have any specific national color like Pakistan and Australia so they went with tricolor. The first option was Saffron but due to political reasons, it was rejected. The second one was White but they could not use it. Green was the third option but it was already taken by Pakistan. Finally, after various discussions between Government Officials, Blue was Finalized as the jersey color of India. Blue represents sky, ocean, and vastness and it is also the color of Ashoka Chakra with 24 spokes. It also symbolizes the passion and vastness to achieve in the game.

Since then many types of the jersey were introduced according to tournament sponsors but one thing remained constant was blue.

”Bleeding blue ” is very famous among fans as it represents their passion towards Indian Cricket team. Orange is now secondary color.
