Richa Chadha, a Bollywood actress, has recently faced backlash from netizens. One of the actress’s tweets drew much criticism. Furthermore, the tweet appeared to mock an army commander’s statement. Richa Chadha officially apologized on Thursday after receiving backlash for a controversial Twitter post about a clash with Chinese troops in Galwan Valley. She apologized, saying it was never her intention to offend or hurt anyone. Furthermore, she stated that ‘Fauj’ has been a part of ‘her blood’ as her nana ji and mama ji have been a part of it. “Even though it can never be my intention in the least, if the 3 words which are being dragged into a controversy have offended or hurt anyone, I apologize and also say that it would sadden me if even unintentionally, my words have triggered this feeling in my brothers in the fauj (army) of which my own Nanaji has been an illustrious part,” Richa Chadha said in her apology tweet.

In her apology post, Richa Chadha also said that her grandfather, a “Lieutenant Colonel”, took a bullet in the leg in the Indo-China war. She also said that her mamaji was a paratrooper, and it was in her blood. Richa further stated that when a son is martyred or injured while serving the country, it affects the entire family. In addition, she said that it is an emotive issue for her.

Richa became embroiled in a dispute almost immediately as she began receiving social media trolls from the political class and netizens. Ram Kadam, a BJP leader, and Maharashtra MLA, criticized the actress for her remark. He questioned her publicity strategy. “To come in the news and get publicity, will she disrespect the soldiers of the country? What has happened to her?” he said. Furthermore, he stated that our warriors guard our country day and night, leaving their families behind and that they should be honored with our heads bowed down.

Furthermore, filmmaker Ashoke Pandit has also demanded to file an FIR against Chadha for her tweet. He said that it is for “mocking & insulting our security forces.” In a previous tweet, he referred to Chadha as an “apologist in the film industry.”

Moving on, another Twitter user said that by disrespecting those who gave their lives for India and by mocking the Indian army, she proves that there is no limit to how low this industry can sink. Additionally, she also said that boycotting is all they are worthy of.

On June 15, 2020, twenty Indian soldiers lost their lives in hand-to-hand combat with Chinese troops in Galwan Valley. It was an incident that sparked the two countries’ most serious military war in decades.
