The ongoing controversy surrounding the alleged NEET paper leak continues to dominate national attention, with the issue triggering protests, political debates, and concerns among millions of students across the country. As Parliament’s Monsoon Session began, the matter once again took centre stage, with the government and the Opposition clashing over the handling of competitive examinations.
Amid the growing row, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for the strictest possible action against those responsible for the alleged paper leak. Stressing the importance of safeguarding the country’s examination system, the Prime Minister said preventing paper leaks is a national responsibility and urged collective efforts to build a foolproof examination process that protects the future of India’s youth.
PM Modi Calls For Strict Action Against Those Responsible
The Prime Minister’s remarks were shared by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju after the NDA Parliamentary Party’s ‘Mangal Milan’ meeting held on Tuesday.
According to Rijiju, Prime Minister Modi emphasised that those involved in the alleged NEET paper leak must face the strongest possible punishment. He also underlined that preventing examination paper leaks should not be viewed as the responsibility of a single institution alone but as a national commitment requiring cooperation from all stakeholders.
Sharing the Prime Minister’s message, Rijiju said that PM Modi stressed the need for a robust and foolproof examination system to ensure fairness and transparency in competitive exams. The Prime Minister also urged all political parties to work together on issues affecting the country’s youth instead of allowing political differences to overshadow larger national interests.
PM Appeals For Cooperation In Parliament
Besides addressing the examination controversy, Prime Minister Modi also appealed for constructive cooperation during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament. According to Kiren Rijiju, the Prime Minister called upon NDA allies to remain united while supporting legislative business. He also appealed to Opposition parties to participate positively in parliamentary proceedings.
Quoting the Prime Minister, Rijiju said,
“The PM called on NDA partners to remain united in supporting legislative business and appealed to opposition parties to work constructively in parliament, saying that while political differences may exist, all MPs have a shared responsibility to work for the country’s future and the welfare of its youth.”
The remarks come at a time when the NEET controversy has become one of the major issues being raised during the current Parliament session.
NEET Paper Leak Triggered Nationwide Concern
The controversy began after allegations surfaced that the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) question paper had been leaked before the examination. NEET is among India’s most competitive entrance examinations, with more than two million students appearing every year in hopes of securing admission to medical colleges.
Following the allegations, the examination conducted in May was scrapped. Authorities later organised a re-examination last month to ensure that deserving candidates were not disadvantaged. The issue further intensified public concern over the security and credibility of competitive examinations across the country.
Government Says Swift Action Was Taken
According to Kiren Rijiju, the Prime Minister highlighted that the government acted immediately after reports of the alleged paper leak emerged. The Centre initiated investigations, resulting in multiple arrests linked to the case. Among those arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is the alleged “kingpin” behind the paper leak.
Investigators identified him as a chemistry lecturer who was reportedly associated with the examination process conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The Education Ministry has also launched a dedicated online platform where members of the public can report suspicious claims, unauthorised content, or fraudulent activities related to the NEET examination.
Rijiju further said the Prime Minister pointed out that the re-examination was conducted without unnecessary delay so that students’ academic futures would not suffer because of the controversy.

The Prime Minister’s remarks came a day after large-scale student protests over the alleged examination irregularities. Hundreds of demonstrators attempting to march towards Parliament were stopped by security personnel, with reports of tear gas and lathi-charge during the protest.
The movement has been led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a satirical political group that emerged earlier this year. The protesters have demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, alleging irregularities in competitive examinations, including the NEET paper leak.

The protests have also drawn support from activist Sonam Wangchuk. His 21-day hunger strike in support of the student movement came to an abrupt end after he was taken to hospital on Saturday. However, Wangchuk later announced that he would continue his hunger strike from the hospital.
He stated that the decision followed what he described as “the brutality with which peacefully protesting students are being dealt with.” Prime Minister Modi, however, did not refer to the protests during his public address ahead of the commencement of Parliament’s Monsoon Session.
Opposition Raises The Issue In Parliament
The NEET controversy also disrupted proceedings in both Houses of Parliament on the opening day of the Monsoon Session. Opposition parties staged protests over the alleged paper leak as well as issues related to the Ram temple donation theft case. Meanwhile, the Cockroach Janta Party said two of its leaders met Union Minister JP Nadda after the government reached out to them.
