The Union Health Ministry quickly formed a high-level multidisciplinary team. It was to assist the State Health Department. They are trying to strengthen public health initiatives. National Centre for Disease Control members is on the team (NCDC). A doctor from New Delhi’s Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital is part of the team. It also includes a senior official and professionals from its regional office. They are from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. They are evaluating the situation on the ground. The team will tell the state about the appropriate public health measures.

To decide whether monkeypox threatens global health, WHO called an urgent meeting. The UN agency had declined to declare it a global emergency. However, people are a bit frightened now when there is a positive case in India. A girl from Ghaziabad was suspected of developing the viral infection earlier in June. She, however, was negative as per the tests. Here are the symptoms, treatment, and precautions from monkeypox.

What Is Monkeypox Virus?

via

The monkeypox virus is still spreading across the globe. Public health officials are stressing the education on battling the virus. A zoonotic disease, monkeypox is mostly spread to humans by wild animals. Transmission from person to person is also possible, though. It is a rare condition that shares similarities with other poxviruses. It includes viruses such as the one that causes smallpox. Since 1958, when they saw it in lab monkeys used for research, scientists have been aware of it. Most cases of monkeypox occur in Central and West Africa. This virus has never before spread outside of Africa.

How Does Monkeypox Virus Spread?

Through physical contact, it can transfer from one person to another. Likewise, it can spread from one infected person to another. It occurs when one comes in contact with bodily fluids like blood or semen. Another way the illness spreads is by contact with lesions on the skin caused by monkeypox. When an infected animal bites a human, it can develop the disease. The virus can pass through towels, blankets, or clothing used by someone with a rash. Another way is by touching an infected person’s skin blisters. Coming into contact with their cough or sneeze droplets is also a cause. Experts also suspect the virus to be sexually transmissible.

Symptoms Of Monkeypox Virus

Symptoms of monkeypox can include:
– Fever
– Headache
– Muscle aches and backache
– Swollen lymph nodes
– Chills
– Exhaustion
– A rash that can look like pimples on the face, inside the mouth, and other body parts.
They start off looking discolored and progress to solid raised spots. They then turn to fluid-filled blisters. Next, moving to pus-filled blister-like sores, dry spots, and finally, they fall out.

Treatment Of Monkeypox Virus

The monkeypox virus has also been rendered immune by vaccines used for smallpox. It’s 85% effective for monkeypox. There is no confirmed treatment for monkeypox. Newer vaccinations are also under testing. Monkeypox is being treated with an antiviral medication. This medication was first made to treat smallpox.

This medication works but with a few side effects. The Jynneos vaccine is smallpox and the monkeypox vaccination. It is being distributed by the US. The vaccination is to be in two doses, separated by 28 days. Most people with monkeypox get better on their own without treatment.

Prevention Of Monkeypox Virus

via

Limiting person-to-person transmission and reducing human contact with infected animals is essential for prevention. The best strategy to stop the virus that causes it from spreading is to:
– Avoid contact with infected animals, especially sick or dead animals.
– Avoid contact with bedding and other things contaminated with the virus.
– Cook the food thoroughly, which contains animal meat.
– Washing hands frequently with soap and water.
– Avoid contacting people who might be infected with the virus.
– Always wear a mask covering your mouth and nose when with others.
– Clean frequently touched surfaces at regular intervals.
– Use PPE kits when looking after infected people.

Few of the preventive measures are just the same as it was for Covid-19.

Remember that monkeypox is rare and hardly spreads between people unless there is close contact. But you should see a doctor if you get a new rash or any of its symptoms.
