The match 10 of the ICC Cricket World Cup was between Australia and West Indies at Trentbridge, Nottingham. Both West Indies and Australia have won their first match of the tournament. West Indies defeated Pakistan, while Australia defeated Afghanistan. But it was Australia who came on top at last at this match. Australia won the match by 15 runs. West Indies won the toss and elected to field first. Check out the key moments of the game.

 

1. Australia’s Poor Start

Australia started very poorly as they lost their first 4 wickets in less than 8 overs and for just 38. David Warner and Aaron Finch didn’t make it to even double figures and got out on 3 and 6 respectively. Glenn Maxwell had gone for a duck. Steve Smith holds one end, but wickets kept on falling from the other end. West Indies bowlers early breakthrough had put Australia in the back seat.

Sheldon Cottrell, Andre Russell, Oshane Thomas, Jason Holder, and Carlos Braithwaite all of them took wickets with Carlos was the pick of the bowler with 3 wickets.

 

3. Lower Middle Order Scored Important Runs

Steve Smith recovered the innings for Australia with wicketkeeper Alex Carey. Once Alex got out on 45, it was Nathan Coulter Nile who changed the reflection of the game and gave Australia a fighting total.

Steve Smith scored 73 and was caught on one of the brilliant catches of the World Cup by Sheldon Cottrell. Coulter Nile career-best innings, his first fifty scored 92 runs in just 60 balls, took the score of Australia to 288. Australia was bowled out at 49th over.

 

4.  West Indies Response

West Indies start poorly as Evin Lewis got out on 1 on Cummins. The umpiring errors in today’s match were too much as Chris Gayle was given out twice and he referred and the decision got reversed. Chris Gayle was again given out the third time, again he took DRS and this time it was Umpires call. But the previous delivery of Mitchell Starc was a big front foot no-ball which umpire failed to spot. Chris Gayle got out on 21.

Shai Hope was the top scorer for West Indies. He scored 68. Jason Holder also scored a half-century and got out on 51. Nicolas Pooran scored 40. Most of the players of the West Indies got the start but failed to convert to a big one.

With regular fall of wickets, West Indies fall short of 15 runs at match 10 of the World Cup. Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins were the pick of the bowlers for Australia. Pat Cummins took 2 wickets.

Mitchell Starc took the first 5-wicket haul of this World Cup. This match was one of the best matches of the tournament so far.

 

5. Nathan Coulter Nile – Man Of The Match

For his amazing knock of 92 in just 60 balls, it was Nathan Coulter Nile who bags the Man of the match award for Australia.

Australia will play their next match against India on Sunday, June 9 at Kennington Oval, while West Indies will play against South Africa at Southampton on Monday, June 10. Tomorrow we have Pakistan taking on Sri Lanka from Bristol.
