On July 26th, the Congress party launched a non-political organization called Narmada Sewa Sena’ to conserve the river Narmada. Former Chief Minister Kamal Nath made an announcement about the organization. A program poster was also released. Further, on Wednesday, former Chief Minister and Madhya Pradesh Congress President Kamal Nath spoke with reporters at the party’s headquarters in Bhopal.

He said the “Narmada Seva Sena” would be a non-political group that anyone could join. Kamal Nath said with sarcasm, “Even Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan can join the Narmada Seva Sena.”

Narmada: A Hit Topic Before Elections

This launch of the ‘Narmada Sewa Sena’ and the poster for the same have again brought the river into the assembly elections. Former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh carried out The Narmada Parikrama in 2018. The poster boy is Hanuman of NDTV Ramayan, Vikram Mastal. Bhupendra Gupta announced that the campaign will begin in Narmadapuram on July 31.

Aarti To Be Done By The Very Organization?

A large number of local committees will reportedly be formed throughout the 1077-km stretch of the Narmada River in MP, between the river’s origin in Amarkantak (Anuppur district) and the districts of Barwani and Alirajpur, under the auspices of the state-level apex Narmada Seva Sena campaign committee. Regular river aartis and related religious rites will be performed as part of the campaign by the Narmada Seva Sena of the Congress at various locations along the river’s banks, beginning at the Sethani Ghat in the Narmadapuram district.

The responsibility of keeping all the ghats on the riverbank clean will be taken on by the Sena. Further, it is possible that this is the first time in the nation that a political party has launched a significant campaign to clean up and conserve a significant river in advance of elections. Moreover, the Sena, which will be associated with experts, will also test the river water’s quality across a stretch of MP and identify the places where the river water isn’t potable.

Conclusion

Political analysts think that the Congress pulled off a brilliant political gambit before the assembly elections because the Narmada issue is a matter of faith for the people of Madhya Pradesh. It will be interesting to see the outcome of the organization’s work. Vikram Mastal joining Congress is a significant boost to the party as he is one of the most respectable people in Madhya Pradesh.
