Indian Couple Spends Rs 15 Lakh To Take Pet Dog To Australia, Wins Hearts Online

For most people relocating abroad, the biggest worries revolve around visas, paperwork, and packing up a life. But for one Indian couple, there was just one non-negotiable question—what happens to our dog? What followed was a deeply emotional journey filled with patience, sacrifice, and unconditional love. Spending nearly ₹15 lakh to take their pet along, the couple has now touched millions online, redefining what family truly means.

One concern was more important to this Indian couple than packing or paperwork when they made the decision to relocate overseas: what about our dog? The couple went above and beyond, spending about ₹15 lakh to make sure their cherished pet could go to Australia with them, referring to him as their “child.” Online, their story is currently warming people’s hearts and igniting discussions on love, accountability, and the true meaning of family.

A Cross-Continental Love

A dog’s love is said to be unconditional and pure, and an Indian couple has demonstrated the extent of that affection. One thing was certain when Divya and John made the decision to relocate from Hyderabad to Australia: Sky, their pet dog, would accompany them regardless of the expense.

It was never an option to abandon him or get another dog after moving. The couple paid around ₹15 lakh to make sure Sky could go safely and begin a new life with them in Australia. In order to keep their family together, they chose love over convenience.

He’s Not Just A Dog

Sharing their emotional journey on the Instagram page Kahaani of tails, the couple addressed the question many people asked them: why spend so much money on a pet?

“We were thrilled to have the chance to relocate from India to Australia,” they stated in the video. However, direct dog imports from India are prohibited in Australia. Sky was required to spend six months in a nation free of rabies. The entire cost was approximately ₹14–16 lakh. The cost and effort were worthwhile for them. They claimed that Sky was their child.

Australia’s Tight Pet Regulations

India is categorized as a non-approved country because of rabies concerns, and Australia does not allow direct pet imports from the country. Before being permitted access, dogs are required to remain in a nation free of rabies for a minimum of six months.

This required months of preparation, paperwork, medical examinations, immunizations, quarantine protocols, and a protracted waiting period filled with hope and anxiety for Divya and John.

Separation For Six Months

The pair decided to make their layover in Dubai. They stayed with Sky for the first month to help him adjust before placing him in a boarding facility for the remaining period.

It was emotionally draining to be apart. “One of the most difficult times in our lives was leaving him,” they said. Over the course of the roughly 190-day procedure, they were accustomed to regular check-ins, phone calls, and video updates. They counted down the days and hoped that their choice was the correct one.

Sky was so relieved when he eventually made it to Australia, the couple stated. “All the waiting, stress, fear, and sacrifices suddenly felt worth it.” They never felt that passionately about something that would seem irrational to others.

They stated, “This journey might not make sense to everyone.” However, Sky is more than just a dog; he is their offspring. Since then, thousands of people have been moved by their story on the internet, which serves as a reminder that love, not species, defines a family.

Conclusion

Divya and John’s journey is not just about relocating with a pet—it’s about standing by love when it’s inconvenient, expensive, and emotionally exhausting. Their story reminds us that family isn’t defined by rules or biology, but by responsibility, commitment, and care. In choosing Sky every step of the way, they’ve shown that for some bonds, no price is too high.
