Small cars: Under 4 meters with petrol engines up to 1200cc or diesel up to 1500cc now have 18% GST instead of 28%.

Larger cars: Bigger cars with a larger engine face 40% GST, but the additional cess is removed.

Festive season timing

Hyundai announced these cuts just before the festive season, when car sales typically increase. The company expects better customer response during this high-demand period.

Industry Impact

The company calls the changes GST 2.0 and expects them to reduce car ownership costs. This should help increase demand in the auto sector and boost long-term customer confidence in India’s car market.

The new pricing takes effect from September 22, giving buyers a chance to save money during the festive season purchases.

These GST reforms mark a major shift in India’s auto policy. Lower taxes on small cars encourage fuel-efficient vehicles, while the new structure simplifies the tax system. The company’s quick response to pass on benefits shows its commitment to India’s customers.
