We adore some famous archeological monuments which attract our attention. But do you know that there are some projects which remain unfinished due to several obstacles? Here is a list of some unfinished buildings, projects, and ideas that fail to make it to the finish line due to some unavoidable circumstances.

 

Alai Minar, New Delhi

This free-standing tower was supposed to be double the height of Qutub Minar. This unfinished building reeks of jealousy and controversies surrounding the Khilji dynasty of the Delhi Sultanate. The death of the Sultan leads to the termination of the project by his successors. The structure was usually overlooked by the tourists.

 

Tour Hassan, Rabat

This half-finished tower was built to immortalize the conquests of Yaqub al-Mansur. This tower was imagined as a part of the largest mosque complex in Rabat, Morocco. However, this monumental complex stands unfinished with a 44-meter high tower, a boundless marble floor, and almost 200 cylindrical columns.

 

St George’s, Bermuda

St George, this decaying church with no roof and broken walls is a hotspot for weddings. This unfinished project of the church goes by its name. The church suffered several setbacks, which includes congregation differences, shortage of funds, and even nature’s fury in form of a hurricane.

 

National Monument Of Scotland

This monument was designed to serve the noble purpose of a memorial for soldiers of the Napoleonic Wars. It was supposed to be a replica of the majestic ancient temple of the Parthenon. The project was terminated due to a shortage of funds in 1829. Sagrada Familia, Barcelona

Sagrada Familia, a beautiful fusion of Gothic and Art Nouveau, this brainchild of Antonio Gaudi is one of his most famous structures, yet to be completed. Visitors fly to Barcelona to witness this unfinished masterpiece. The current project architect aspires to complete the construction by Gaudi’s death centennial in 2026.

 

Pyramid Of Neferefre, Abusir

The intention was to build a perfect pyramid filled with riches. But, the demise of the pharaoh Neferefre forced the successors to bury him hastily covered in a mound of stone. This work of art was left incomplete.

 

Sathorn Unique Tower, Bangkok

Sathorn Unique Tower suffered the Asian Financial crisis of 1997, which bought a halt to the construction. The plan was to build forty-seven luxury floors. It is now a gloomy tower of intrigue. The dull exposed building was standing abandoned. There is no sign of human life, it is illegal to enter the tower. One can see signs outside the structure that states trespassers will be prosecuted if found trying to enter the structure.
