Customer Shocked To Find Glove Inside Sandwich Order; Zomato Responds

After an extended hungry wait, imagine opening your food order and finding something unexpected in it. That is exactly what happened when a man placed an order for an ordinary sandwich on Zomato and instead found a glove inside his meal. In addition to creating some confusion on social media, the strange incident led Zomato to label the situation as “absolutely shocking.”

Concerns regarding food cleanliness were raised on Tuesday when a consumer posted on social media about finding a glove inside a sandwich they had bought from Zomato, a meal delivery service.

In a Tuesday tweet to Zomato and Zomato Care, Satish Sarawagi, a client and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) from Gurugram, called the occurrence “unacceptable” and a “serious hygiene concern,” tagging the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

After finding a “serious hygiene concern” in online food, a Zomato user was taken aback. Salad Days, a well-known delivery-only restaurant business in Delhi NCR, is where user Satish Sarawagi (@SarawagiSatish) posted a photo of a sandwich he purchased on X.

A plastic disposable glove is shown in the picture sandwiched between slices of bread along with other ingredients. These gloves are frequently used when preparing food, and they are thrown away and replaced to preserve hygiene. The Noida consumer also included a screenshot of his Zomato app order in another image.

 

What Was Zomato’s Reaction?

“A glove was discovered within the sandwich I ordered! This raises major hygiene issues and is unacceptable. Kindly look into this and get back to me as soon as possible,” Sarawagi replied.

Within 30 minutes, Zomato Care responded, expressing its “complete shock” and offering its apologies for the inconvenience. The business promised to follow up with the consumer immediately and look into the issue with the restaurant partner.

“Hello Satish, hearing about this has completely stunned us. How upsetting this must have been for you is beyond our comprehension,” the platform said. “Please give us some time so that we can discuss this with the restaurant partner. We’ll get in touch with you to discuss this further.”

In India’s rapidly expanding meal delivery industry, the incident sparked intense online discussion over food safety and quality assurance. The startling revelation emphasizes the critical need for better hygiene control by both eateries and delivery services, even if Zomato was quick to apologize and guarantee a thorough investigation. Customers are given a clear reminder to be on guard, and businesses are reminded that even a minor mistake can have serious consequences for their reputation and security.
