No doubt Flair and Rousey are super athletes. However, it is “The Man” (Lynch), who is the fan favorite. During the past year, Lynch has made the women’s division super exciting to watch. So today let us take a look at how Becky Lynch became the man.

She Was Fond Of Wrestling In Her Childhood

Becky Lynch was born on 30 January 1987 in Limerick Ireland and her real name is Rebecca Quin. Since her childhood, she was so fond of wrestling. As time passes it became her hobby until her elder brother Richy talked her about making into pro wrestling. He joined a wrestling school but Becky was underaged (15) at that time as the minimum age for training pro wrestling was 16 at that time.

She Started Her Training

Soon Becky discovered that two Irish students who were students of an English wrestling school were opening their own camp which was near her home. Back in 2002, Lynch joined the camp and there she met Finn Balor who was quite skinny at that time. Becky lied about her age and stated herself as a 16-year-old. Balor said, “I think she was 15 and she might have lied about her age and told us she was 16 because you had to be 16 to train at the time.”

Becky Had Developed The Passion

Wrestling was a new experience to her at that time and she was not this much good in the beginning. She once said, “I was terrible. It was so foreign to me,” Lynch said. “I wasn’t an athlete, and I was a chilled-out kid, you know? I was tough, I had never done anything like this but I just wanted to work. I remember at one stage crying to [Finn] and being like, ‘I just want to be as good as any of the guys.’ And he was like, ‘Well, that’s what I’m trying to make you do.'”

Becky Lynch Outworked Everyone

However, she worked so hard and got better with practice. Finn Balor said, “We had something special in Becky — even if she wasn’t as aware of it like everyone else. She was the only girl out of about 40 guys, she outworked every single one of them, every single day at training,” He pursued it further and said,”I think Becky gives me too much credit. I think she says that I trained her, but really, Becky, in my opinion, trained herself. She just needed a little guidance and a little motivation with regards to where to go and what to do.”

Her Love For Wrestling

By this that time, Lynch has become quite good in it and her love for wrestling was increasing day after day. She had her first one-on-one pro wrestling match in 2004. She performed under the ring name, Rebbeca Knox. She said, “I was just like, ‘Give me as much wrestling as I can because I love this and I just want to get as good as possible,'” Lynch said. “There’s nothing in my life that I’ve ever felt like that about.”

She Gained Some Popularity

By the year 2006, she shifted to Canada and pursued her wrestling career. She was offered some tours and also she faced Natalya Neidhart who was considered an upcoming superstar at that time. Becky gained some popularity at that time under the name Rebecca Knox and Prazak heard about her. He told, “Lexie Fyfe, who has played a key role in the development of women’s wrestling in the United States over the past 15 years, passed along a DVD of a few Rebecca Knox matches to me during late 2005,” He continued. “One of the matches on the disc was a training match, in front of no audience, against Fergal Devitt [Finn Balor]. Even though Becky was still very new to wrestling at the time, I was immediately impressed with her skill level and wanted to make her a part of our events.”

Almost Quit

However, the wrestling paychecks were too small and she had to look for other career options. She returned to Europe when her visa expired. She eventually returned to her family in Dublin and started working as a flight attendant. Back in 2012, she again met Balor who was quite popular at that time as he was signed by NJPW (New Japan Pro Wrestling). Lynch recalled, “Finn and I sat down, we had lunch on Wicklow Street, off Grafton Street in Dublin, and I said to him, ‘I feel like I should go back to wrestling, but I don’t know — I’m doing this acting thing.’ And he was like, ‘Well, go back now because I’m not sitting here with you in 10 years and you’re going to be wishing that you had.”

She also tried for the role of a stuntwoman in “Vikings” which was shot near the location where she started her wrestling training back in 2002. She paid a visit there and gave a tryout. Joe Carbrey was the trainer who was soon hired by the NXT. Joe was impressed by Lynch’s performance and he said, “You still got it”. Later on, Becky got a try out in NXT and this embarked her journey in WWE. Becky is also one of the highest paid Women wrestlers.
