A completely working electric flying car that can both drive on the road and fly in the skies has recently become the first to get legal permission to take off from the US government.

The US government has approved the flying automobile built by Alef Aeronautics in the United States. According to the firm, the Model A has acquired Special Airworthiness Certification from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This is an important milestone since it is the very first time a vehicle of this type has been certified in the United States.

“The FAA is actively working on its policies for electrical vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicles, as well as governing interactions between eVTOLs and ground infrastructure.”

The First Flying Car

Alef Aeronautics created its first prototype in 2016 to suit particular specifications such as car-like driving, vertical takeoff abilities, and cost. According to the business, the Model A has a driving range of 200 miles and a flying range of up to 110 miles. Furthermore, the corporation said that the $ 300,000 model began presales in October 2022 and had already gotten over 440 bookings by the close of the year.

Since 2019, Alef Aeronautics has begun driving and flying prototypes. The Model A is expected to go into production in the Q4 of 2025.

The company also intends to produce new vehicles, such as the Model Z, a four-person car that will be on sale in 2035 for an initial cost of $35,000. Model Z will have a flying range of more than 300 miles and a range of more than 200 miles for driving.

Earlier this year, Alef’s CEO, Jim Dukhovny, indicated that the business’s goal is to build the first true flying automobile in history and that obtaining so many pre-orders is an “incredible validation” of the market opportunity the company hopes to achieve.

Dr. Constantine Kisly, Pavel Markin, Oleg Petrov, and Jim Dukhovny, four technical geniuses, created the firm in 2015. According to the company’s official website, the first sketch of an actual flying automobile was done on a serviette at a cafe. The creators expected that the automobile would take roughly six months to create.
