On Friday, a buffalo valued at approximately Rs 21 crore was killed at the Pushkar Animal Fair in Rajasthan. A huge crowd attended the fair just to see the animal, and thousands of people came to see it on a daily basis. The abrupt killing has left a massive controversy on the internet.
What Happened To The Rs 21 Crore Buffalo
It did not take the buffalo very long to deteriorate in health on Friday at the fair. Due to its great value, the animal was transported to Pushkar with special care and arrangements.
News18 quoted that a team of vets was sent by the Animal Husbandry Department as soon as it received the news. The veterinarians made every attempt to rescue the buffalo but were unsuccessful. People in government claimed that the health and weight of the body could not be treated because of the large size and rapid deterioration.
A video from the fair also depicts the dead buffalo lying at the location as many people and caretakers surround it. This video went viral on social media, and people began responding strongly.

Another person said, “Cruelties in the name of business to animals.”
One of them felt foul play and said, “It’s not sudden death. They intended to ensure his murder.”
One other person wrote this: “A buffalo being priced at 21 crore and yet failing to avoid fate.”
About Pushkar Animal Fair
The Pushkar Animal Fair is also referred to as the Pushkar Mela. It is a yearly event that takes place in Pushkar, Rajasthan. It is among the largest camel and livestock fairs in the world.
The fair takes place over a week in October or November. People arrive to visit not only from other countries but also from India. The fair is primarily involved in trading such animals as camels, horses, and cattle.
Along with business, the fair represents the culture of the state of Rajasthan through camel races, folk dances, music, and other stalls. These booths offer handicrafts, textiles, and local foodstuffs.
The Real Problem
There are a lot of questions that are being raised about how animals are treated at these large fairs. The remarks on the internet indicate that there are owners who administer hormones and antibiotics to their animals so that they can appear larger and healthier. This assists them in acquiring higher prices.
However, the practices are harmful to animals. Travel, crowds, and chemical injections can ruin their health.
What Needs To Happen?
This accident poses some significant questions. Was the buffalo fed poisonous substances? Did they take decent medical care of it before they went to the fair? Was it actually an insurance plan?
The officials ought to do the right inquiry. In a situation where an individual caused the death of the animal due to negligence or cruelty, he or she ought to be punished.
Such practices are not new, and animal welfare experts have been raising concerns. The well-being of animals is usually neglected when they turn out to be products that fetch crores of rupees.
This is a sad death and must make us ponder. It does not matter the amount of money an animal is worth; they should be respected and cared for. The Pushkar Fair should have superior rules to ensure animal protection.
